Are canned foods safe to use after a fire?

Commercially canned foods are safe to use after a fire if the containers are not dented, bulged, or leaking. Home canned foods in jars are safe to use after a fire if the jar and seal have not been broken. Wash the outside of the cans and jars in hot soapy water and rinse in water containing 1-Tablespoon chlorine bleach per gallon water. Dry thoroughly.
