What is a basic measurement of freezer capacity?

Rating: 60

One cubic foot of freezer space holds up to 35 pounds of food. This estimate is based upon the shape of the frozen food (block items that can be fitted together tightly). This may be useful information for someone when they need to estimate the loss from a freezer failure. The appliance industry recommends freezer space of 3 cubic feet per family member for storage of food from weekly shopping trips or 6 cubic feet per person if you plan to freeze larger quantities of garden produce, meats, etc. for use all year.
