Can all plastic storage bags be used for food storage?

Rating: 0

Plastic bags that are not made for food storage should not be used for food storage. All packaging materials sold in the U.S. that have an intended use for food storage are regulated by the FDA and/or the USDA. In order for a material to be approved for food contact, it must be subjected to tests that are expensive and time consuming. Since trash bags are not intended for storing foods, the bag manufacturers are not required to document compliance with the regulations covering food storage bags. They have not undergone the tests that would clear them for food use.
