What should I do if a glass meat thermometer breaks off into a piece of meat?
If a glass meat thermometer breaks in the meat product, it may be removed and the product eaten. According to the FDA, glass-liquid meat thermometers must contain nontoxic liquid. If the glass breaks, cut out a large area around the point where breakage occurred to remove all liquid that has a strong odor and taste and make sure all glass fragments are removed.
