Canning -- Miscellaneous

When stacking pints in a pressure cooker, is it necessary to put something between the two rows of canning jars?

Rating: 94

It is not essential for the safety of the food to put something between the two rows of canning jars. However, to prevent breakage and cracks in the jars, separate them so they do not "knock" against each other during processing. This "knocking" could lead to hairline cracks or even extensive breaks.
