Identify resources to help promote food safety education messagesAll land-grant universities in the U.S. house the state-level Cooperative Extension Service. One of the primary functions of the Cooperative Extension Service is to educate the public about food safety. To determine which university within your state is the land-grant institution, go to www.reeusda.gov/1700/statepartners/usa.htm After you identify the university, search for food safety information for consumers. Fight BAC!trade is the national campaign to promote safe food handling
in U.S. homes. This site provides information about this campaign for
consumers, educators, and the media. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), U.S. Department of Agriculture

education information for consumers to help them reduce their risk for
foodborne illness. The food safety education and consumer information
Web site of FSIS contains a wide variety of materials of interest to

he National Center for Home Food Preservation is a source for current
research-based recommendations for most methods of home food
preservation. The Center located at the University of Georgia was
established with funding from the Cooperative State Research, Education
and Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture (CSREES-USDA) to
address food safety concerns for those who practice and teach home food
preservation and processing methods. This site includes tested recipes
and answers many frequency asked questions. National Sanitation Foundation International
The National Sanitation Foundation International (NSF) is a
not-for-profit organization that is the leading independent inspector of
food-related products. NSF audits retail outlets, restaurants, and food
production facilities to ensure compliance with public health
guidelines. Their Web site includes information specifically prepared to
answer consumer questions about food safety and other health-related
