How much vinegar should be used to make a pickling solution?

When the pickling solution is added to the jar, there should be at least 1/4 cup of vinegar per pint or 1/2-cup vinegar per quart. For example, a pickling solution calls for 6 cups vinegar and 2 cups water for preparing 8 pints of pickles. Each pint of pickles would contain 1 cup of the pickling solution and in that one cup of solution there would be 3/4 cup of vinegar.
