What is a tomatillo and can it be used for canning?

Tomatillos, also known as Mexican green tomatoes or Mexican husk tomatoes, look like hard, green cherry tomatoes in a parchment husk. Tomatillos must be husked before using. The remaining fruit has a waxy feeling surface. Follow processing times and method for hot-packed tomatoes.
