Should the screw bands be left on jars of food after canning?

Rating: 100

After the jars have cooled and they have been checked for seals, the screw bands should be removed. The top of the jar should be wiped with a cloth to remove any food particles that were present. Wash screw bands, dry them and store in a dry place. If screw bands are left on the jars, they may rust, become difficult to remove, and may not work properly when used again.
