Is paraffin safe for human consumption?
Some older recipes for dipped candy call for melting paraffin with chocolate. If you read the label on the paraffin box, it will probably say "Not for human consumption." It is not an FDA approved food additive. Special chocolate is sold for dipping chocolate. Consumers may need to go to a specialty store to find dipping/coating chocolate that has added cocoa butter to make it firmer upon cooling. Some of the major food companies now have products suitable for dipping that are found in stores at holidays.
