Home | Category: Canning -- Equipment Canning -- EquipmentCan I use vegetable oil to lubricate a canner gasket?Rating: 90 Replacement gaskets for older model canners are not pre-lubricated and need to be lubricated before the first use and again when the lid becomes difficult to open or close. To do so, use a very light coating of vegetable oil. Frequent or heavy oiling is undesirable because it might cause the sealing ring to swell and not fit properly, or it will cause the gasket to deteriorate rapidly.
