How does one clean a butcher block?

The key to cleaning is to make sure that all debris is removed. Use a soft-bristled brush and soapy water. Rinse well. If using the butcher block for meat, rinse again with one gallon water and one tablespoon chlorine bleach. Over time the chlorine will bleach the wood. If this is a problem aesthetically, she should not use the surface for cutting raw meats, fish, or poultry.
